A pile of ashes? A man in Soest has sued his friend for allegedly burning the man's savings - more than 500,000 euros. It should have been a mistake.

He has kept more than half a million euros in his boiler, the plaintiff said before the district court Soest. They are now gone - because a friend just turned on the heater.

The judges of the district court Arnsberg have dismissed the claim for damages of the man. According to a court spokesman, the verdict was already on 13 September, a report of the "Bild" newspaper announced it now.

As the spokesman said, the incident is said to have occurred at the turn of the year 2014/2015 in North Rhine-Westphalia Soest. The owner of a workshop asked a friend to look after his right during his two-week holiday. The friend testified in court that it had been cold in the workshop - so he turned on the heater. The garage owner in turn claimed that he had hidden all his savings in the boiler. He had previously dismantled the plant. The acquaintance of the plaintiff had but again built together.

When the workshop owner returned home from vacation, there was almost nothing left of the money. He was able to reconstruct 20,000 euros through the Bundesbank. Therefore, he demanded now 520 000 euros from his friend back. He also quit the man's friendship.

According to the court it is clear that the acquaintance turned on the heating. Also, the sum of 540 000 euros was considered "true". But nobody could have gotten the idea that someone was hiding money in the boiler, the judges declared and dismissed the lawsuit. So there was no evidence, said the court spokesman. Whether the money really existed can not be determined.

The workshop owner can still go in revision.
