In a heavy traffic accident in Hamburg, three people were seriously injured in the night of Sunday, two of them life-threatening. The police are investigating suspicions of an illegal vehicle race.

A car driver had observed around 1.40 clock in the district Horn two cars that drove side by side - and clearly too fast, as a spokesman for the police said in the morning.

According to information from noon a 20-year-old drove his car on the Sievekingsallee towards the city center, as approached from behind two vehicles at high speed: a BMW X 5 and an Audi A 6. The 22-year-old BMW driver overtook the Audi and collided with this.

The 19-year-old Audi driver then lost control of his vehicle and hurled against the 20-year-old's driving car and at least eleven parked vehicles on the roadside. According to the police report, the BMW also turned and poked with the passenger side against a standing on the central island tree.

Of the six people in the three cars, the BMW driver and his 39-year-old passenger became life-threatening, one inmate hard and another slightly injured. The Audi driver remained unhurt, his 19-year-old passenger was slightly injured. Likewise, the 20-year-old driver was slightly injured.

The police seized the driver's licenses of 19 and 22-year-old drivers and instituted criminal proceedings.
