Emergency personnel searched in vain for a missing woman in the mud flats off Brunsbüttel and her eight-year-old son. Late on Sunday evening, the 19-year-old daughter of the missing had alerted the authorities, after the woman had disappeared with the child, as informed by the district fire department Dithmarschen. Why the woman went into the mud in the dark is so far unclear.
For more than two hours, the area between a marina and the Elbfähranleger in Brunsbüttel and the Elbe were searched by rescue teams of the fire department, rescue services of the DGzRS (German Society for the rescue of shipwrecked) and water police boats. Thermal imaging cameras and a night search device were also used.
Footprints in the watt, garments and shoes on a groin would have suggested that the woman and the boy had stayed near the water, said the fire department. No one was found. At 1.30 am, the search for an agreement with the police was stopped.
