For the British actor Sam Riley it is not excluded to become German because of the Brexits. The 39-year-old lives with his wife, the actress Alexandra Maria Lara, and their son Ben in Berlin.
"When I came here, I never thought that I would ask myself if I should change my nationality, because I feel a great shame," said Riley in an interview with the "Berliner Morgenpost". "But if I have to vote, then I will become German." He will always be a Yorkshirer, but with a European passport.
Riley met Lara ten years ago when filming the movie "Control" about the life of Joy Division vocalist Ian Curtis. He is mainly known from so-called arthouse dramas, which are filmed without a large budget. In "Maleficent", the real-life adaptation of the Disney animated classic "Sleeping Beauty", Riley also starred alongside Hollywood star Angelina Jolie. On Thursday comes "Maleficent 2: Powers of Darkness" in the cinema.

Threatening Brexit: Sam Riley is considering switching citizenship"Brexit is a big scam," Riley said. The discussion about Britain's exit from the United Kingdom made him and his family very sad that he was a big fan of Europe. "Berlin is home, when I land here, I think I'll go back in. When I'm in England, I feel very familiar, but it does not feel at home any more," the actor said.
At the fame of his wife in Germany Riley had to get used to his own words first. "When we first ran across the causeway, a guy was literally running against a lamppost because of her, which really impressed me," the actor said. He had never gone out with such a famous woman before. "I thought that was pretty attractive, I mean, how many German movie stars did she kiss?"
