A10 at Michendorf: SEK overwhelmed gunmen on rest area

A 22-year-old has threatened with explosives at night on a motorway rest area near Potsdam. It was followed by a police operation for hours, then the offender was shot.



The access took place in the early morning: After hours of use, special forces of the police in Brandenburg shot a man to overwhelm him. The 22-year-old had threatened at night at the rest area Michendorf South on the highway 10 with a weapon and explosives use, the police said in the morning. He also injured a service dog with a knife. The motive of the man remained so far unclear.

The man was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. The gun had turned out to be a fake, explosives had not been discovered, the police said. The injured service dog had to be operated on.

According to the authorities, an emergency call was received late on Monday evening, because a person with a gun, a thick jacket and a backpack is at the rest area. Thereupon special forces of the police with an armored vehicle as well as a negotiation group arrived. It was not until 4:10 clock, the forces succeeded in overpowering the perpetrator.

Because of the operation, the area was cordoned off according to police to protect uninvolved third parties. The rest area was closed in the direction of travel Frankfurt (Oder). The A10 was released at 5.50 clock, after it had been closed for several hours in both directions between the terminals Ferch and Michendorf.
