Following the deaths of two employees of parcel service provider Hermes in Haldensleben, the company has temporarily ceased its operations on site. The site was shut off, said a Hermes spokesman in the night of Wednesday. He assumed that there would be delays in settlement should the temporary stop of operations not be lifted within a short time. Usually, the night shift in logistics is rampant, said the spokesman.
One day two employees died. On the site of the dispatch center in Saxony-Anhalt, a dead man was first discovered on the night of Tuesday. The 58-year-old collapsed and died on the spot. In the afternoon, according to police in Haldensleben then another employee was found dead in a transport vehicle. The 45-year-old was sitting lifeless on the driver's seat.
The cause of death was initially unclear in both cases. A third man was found severely injured on Tuesday. Reason should have been health problems.
The police said on Tuesday evening, for a connection between the incidents there is so far no evidence. There is also no evidence of outside influence.
During the night of Wednesday, about 120 employees of the fire department were on site. The police thought the mission would "last for hours" anyway. According to the spokesman, no employees of the parcel service are more at the dispatch center. The late shift was released earlier, the night shift did not begin.
