In the US, a case of deadly police violence has triggered outrage. A white policeman in Fort Worth, Texas, is being charged with murder, authorities said. He shot a black woman standing by the window of her house during a deployment.
A neighbor had called the police on Friday evening, because the door to the house of the 28-year-olds was open. Two investigators then went around the house with flashlights, as images of body cameras of the two show. When a silhouette appeared at the window inside the house, one of the policemen opened the fire.
On the recordings you can hear the investigator shouting "Hands up, show me your hands" - and then shoot immediately. The man said he saw a danger, the police said in a statement, but the authorities admitted that the accused had not been expelled as a police officer.
"Brutal Police Culture"
The woman, according to her family's lawyer, played a video game with her eight-year-old nephew and went to the window when she heard the sounds. The front door had opened accordingly, to let fresh air into the apartment.
The lawyer spoke of a "brutal police culture" in the city near Dallas. Mayor Betsy Price was appalled by the incident and demanded an independent investigation.
In recent years, cases of deadly police violence against blacks have sparked angry and sometimes violent protests in the US.
