Advertisement for cosmetic surgery, which is directed "exclusively or predominantly" at young people, should be forbidden after the will of Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn. Such a ban would be "practiced protection of minors," the CDU politician told the "Tagesspiegel".
"The signal of our society to young people must be: You are ok, just as you are." Advertising for cosmetic surgery mediates "too often a different, false message". This would put young people "under pressure to change their appearance through surgery".
According to the report, the regulation should be added as an amendment to the planned law on measles and be treated on Friday by the Bundestag in first reading.
Every surgical intervention poses a threat to health, according to the "Tagesspiegel" report in Spahns amendment. "Especially the age group of young people, who are very sensitive to issues such as beauty ideal and appearance," should therefore be protected from appropriate advertising. The ban should also apply to advertising in social networks.
