Countless moviegoers wept for Jack Dawson, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who drowned in the icy sea at the end of Titanic. In retrospect, it is hard to imagine that the penniless artist would have been played by another actor.
But DiCaprio should have hesitated at least briefly, as he got offered the role. This is what Paul Rudd told in the "Graham Norton Show". Accordingly, the two men had just shot together in 1996 the film "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet" when DiCaprio got the offer.
On the way to a bar, DiCaprio told Rudd, "I've just been offered this movie and it's a big movie." Until that time, his acting colleague had mainly made independent films.
Rudd had a special relation to the topic of the strip: His father had been a "Titanic expert" who spoke at universities about the ship. He had known a lot about the subject, said the 50-year-old. DiCaprio and Rudd would have talked about it. "Well, I do not know what I'm going to do," DiCaprio said. Rudd's reply was clearly clear: "You should do it."
