After a knife attack in an asylum home in Austria, a second victim died. A 32-year-old assistant of the Red Cross had succumbed to his injuries, the police said. Against a 33-year-old suspect from Afghanistan is now being investigated for two murders.
The suspect is said to have stabbed the 32-year-old on Monday in a refugee shelter in Wullowitz on the Austrian-Czech border. Possible motive is a dispute about the placement of a job.
On the run, the suspect then stabbed a 63-year-old farmer in a garage on a nearby farm and stole his car. The 33-year-old was a few hours later, after a large search in Linz by police.
The alleged perpetrator is a rejected asylum seeker who arrived in Austria in July 2015 with the help of smugglers. The asylum application was rejected, according to police last year. Following a complaint by the man, the Austrian Federal Administrative Court is now dealing with the case.
