The Berlin police have caught a suspected art fraudster. He is expected by his customers high down payments for the procurement of works of art, but never delivered the items.
According to prosecutors and police, the 67-year-old is suspected of having captured several million euros. It was found because of serious fraud and forgery. The police did not say how many people were said to have been cheated by the man.
On Thursday, forces had searched five private and business addresses in Berlin and two in Brandenburg. They seized assets and provided evidence. The police arrested the 67-year-old in his apartment in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
The magistrate proclaimed the arrest warrants to the suspect, but with exoneration. "He does not have to be in custody, but gets very tight reporting requirements," said a police spokeswoman.
