A police officer shot several times on a wrong-way driver in Hamburg-Neuallermöhe in the district Bergedorf on Saturday afternoon. According to the police, the driver was dangerously close to the officials. The driver was not injured, but was admitted to a clinic because he was psychologically conspicuous.
Several eyewitnesses had alerted the police when the wrong-way driver headed in the opposite direction to the A25. Policemen tried to stop the Honda with French registration - without success. The driver fled from the highway, drove partly over bike paths and endangered several pedestrians and moped and cyclists.
Finally he turned and drove back towards the highway. The police again tried to persuade him to stop. However, the driver avoided the police cars and drove instead to a 30-year-old official, who then fired several times on the vehicle.
The driver was unhurt and drove on. Finally, a radio patrol rammed the escape car and brought him to a halt. The police car was badly damaged. The driver, a 35-year-old Frenchman, was arrested without resistance. A medical officer ordered the placement in a closed psychiatry.
