In Germany, by no means all people vaccinate against the flu, to whom this protection is recommended. The Grand Coalition now wants to allow in the context of regional model projects that pharmacists administer this vaccine.
This is in an amendment by CDU / CSU and SPD on the Measles Protection Act. The hope is that the offer will allow more people to be vaccinated against the flu.
According to the application pharmacists are only allowed to vaccinate adults, no children. You must have completed appropriate training and have suitable rooms available. And perhaps the responsible pharmacist chambers have to adjust their professional regulations because these activities, such as vaccination, are actually ruled out.
The model projects should run for a maximum of five years and be scientifically monitored. For if the goal is achieved, more people to vaccinate, must first show. Other vaccinations should not be given by pharmacists.
As the "FAZ" reported, doctors responded indignantly to the proposal. The plan exceeded the limits of the health professions and was "so unacceptable," said the Chairman of the German Family Physicians Association, Ulrich Weigeldt, the "FAZ". "Vaccinations do not belong in a pharmacy, pharmacists have never learned."

In contrast, the head of the health insurance AOK Rheinland / Hamburg, Günter Wältermann expressed positive. "Let pharmacists vaccinate against flu, if we can increase the vaccination rate and avoid many flu deaths," said Wältermann the "Rheinische Post". He emphasized that pharmacists in France and Switzerland were allowed to vaccinate.
Who should get vaccinated
Last winter, according to estimates by the Robert Koch Institute, 25,100 people died of the flu - it was the highest number of deaths in the past 30 years.
The Standing Vaccination Commission advises all people over 60 years to the annual flu vaccine. We also recommend the vaccine for many chronically ill as well as for pregnant women (from the second trimester of pregnancy). Even people who have a greater risk of infecting others, the vaccine is suggested. This applies, for example, to medical personnel.
