The internationally renowned Chinese artist Huang Yong Ping died at the age of 65 in his adopted home of Paris. His gallery owner Kamel Mennour confirmed the death.
Huang Yong Ping was considered one of the leading exponents of the avant-garde. Works by the concept and installation artist belong to the collections of many famous museums in the world, such as the Museum of Modern Art (MomA), the Guggenheim Museum or the Center Pompidou. He also represented France in 1999 at the Venice Biennale. In 2016 he was awarded the Wolfgang Hahn Prize of the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne.

Born in 1954 in the southern Chinese port city of Xiamen, Huang Yong Ping was one of the founders of a group called "Xiamen Dada" in the 1980s. He combined Dadaism with Buddhism. In 1989, the artist participated in the exhibition "Les Magiciens de la Terre" in the Center de Pompidou in Paris and decided to settle in Paris after the bloody suppression of the democracy movement on 4 June 1989 in Beijing.
