26 hours without a real break - at the wheel of a quasi-scrap vehicle: In the vicinity of Koblenz, investigators have pulled out a dilapidated car and an equally unable to drive man from the traffic.
The driver had fallen asleep during the check on a rest area of the highway 3 in Rhineland-Palatinate, communicated the police. The man, who arrived with five inmates from southeastern Europe, did not have sufficient rest for more than one day. The officers initiated criminal proceedings against the driver and the vehicle owner.
On the 20-year-old vehicle, the officials noted a remarkable number of deficiencies: The driver's seat belt did not work, other belts were also broken. On a headrest lacked the upholstery, parts of the brake and exhaust system were missing, the axle mounts were knocked out or rusted. In addition, engine and transmission leaking and the vehicle frame were rusted or broken at various points.
In addition, there was no necessary permit for a passenger transport and the driver could provide no evidence of his driving and rest periods. The vehicle was shut down, registration certificate and license plate were withdrawn.
