In December, the final part of the "Star Wars" saga to come to the cinemas. Now, a new trailer gives an outlook on the end: fans fear that one must say goodbye to an important figure.

Lightsaber hits lightsaber, spaceships roar through space, Stormtrooper fires shots, explosions, daredevil maneuvers, and a few tears of farewell - all this is in the new trailer to the final part of the "Star Wars" saga. Disney has released on Monday night, he was first shown in the football game between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets.

In the trailer you can see all the characters who survived the battles of the last part: Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe (Oscar Isaac), Chewbacca, C-3PO and BB-8, who will fight for the resistance , as well as Rogue Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), the son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford). After this and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) died, you can hear and see in the trailer Generalin Leia (Carrie Fisher), the courage of the new generation in the battle for space.

Just: Fisher died in 2016, before filming this part. Director JJ Abrams chose to use unpublished footage of her from "Episode VII - The Awakening of Power" (2015) for the film. The fact that the actress would have celebrated her birthday on the day of the trailer release was particularly sad for some fans.

"The saga will end, the story lives forever," says the trailer. This means: "Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker" will complete the film series. It is therefore assumed that one must say goodbye to some of the beloved figures over the years. Maybe from the droid C-3PO (Anthony Daniels)?

The robot looks at the troop of the remaining resistance fighters in the trailer and says: "I take one last look (... ...) at my friends." Therefore, some dismayed fans, the friendly droid who has appeared in the movies since the beginning of the saga, are not predicting his death.

According to Abrams, the last part ties in somewhat later with its predecessor "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" (2017). On 18 December, the film is to come to German cinemas.

But that will not end with the Star Wars universe. Recently, it was announced that the "Avengers" producer Kevin Feige is working on a joint film project with Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy. In addition, Rian Johnson, who staged the second installment of the series with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is developing another trilogy to be set in a previously unknown location in the galaxy with new characters. And the "Game of Thrones" makers David Benioff and Dan Weiss are to create a "Star Wars" trilogy, which will run independently of the previous saga in the cinema. Benioff and Weiss write and produce the films.

The first to be seen is the "Star Wars" series "The Mandalorian": Developed for Disney's streaming platform Disney +, author and producer Jon Favreau ("Iron Man", "Lion King") is responsible. "The Mandalorian" is about a nomadic warrior people, whose most famous representatives are probably the bounty hunter Boba Fett and his father Jango Fett.
