The engine driver tried to brake: A 43-year-old man was caught and killed by a train in the Lower Saxony Ganderkesee, according to police. According to a spokesman, he is said to have looked at his phone and missed the train.

The cyclist had accordingly crossed the tracks of the railroad crossing in Ganderkesee-Schierbrok on Monday evening, despite closed half-barriers. The driver had still initiated an emergency braking, but can no longer prevent the collision.
