Ex-Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein and his helpers have made a "diabolical" attempt to silence the victims of sexual assault: Rose McGowan has now filed a lawsuit.

Rose McGowan, one of the pioneers of the #Metoo movement, takes to court against Harvey Weinstein. The US actress filed a lawsuit against the ex-Hollywood mogul in a federal court in California on Wednesday. The former studio boss and his assistants have made a "diabolical" and illegal attempt to silence the victims of sexual assault, according to court documents published by the Variety magazine.

Among other things, McGowan speaks of fraud, violation of privacy and emotional distress. In addition to Weinstein, she also sues former lawyers of the producer and the controversial security firm Black Cube.

Weinstein rejected the allegations by his lawyer. McGowan said he was only interested in money and attention, attorney Phyllis Kupferstein wrote in a memo to the Hollywood Reporter.

According to the actress, she was raped in 1997 by the producer. She wanted to describe this incident in 2016 in her planned book. Weinstein and his team have tried by all means to suppress this, McGowan argues in their lawsuit. This included reputational damage, so nobody would believe it. McGowan insists in court on an undisclosed compensation.

McGowan was one of the first women in 2017 to accuse Weinstein of rape and sexual assault. In 2018, the film producer in New York was charged with criminal sexual acts. The trial is scheduled to begin next January. More than 80 women have raised allegations against the 67-year-olds. The prosecution in New York, however, it is only two incidents from the years 2006 and 2013. Weinstein asserted that all sexual acts were carried out by mutual agreement.
