The Frankenthal district court has sentenced a woman and a man to three years and six months imprisonment for their baby's abuse. They were found guilty of abuse by minors, as the court said. An active or sexual abuse of the infant is not proven to the accused.
The only seven-week-old boy had suffered severe genital injuries and skull and rib fractures in October 2018. Only one emergency operation saved the boy. The prosecution had demanded eight years for the mother and four years for the father. The defense had pleaded for acquittal.
According to the district court, both defendants have not yet been prosecuted. Accordingly, the Youth Welfare Office and a pediatrician can not be blamed. The care of the family had been close-knit. The boy, according to the guardian, lives in a foster home and gradually recovers. It's too early to predict development.
