A twelve-year-old boy from Germany died on a cruise in Italy. The child was on the "MSC Divina" in the middle of the week, when the family asked for medical help, confirmed a spokeswoman for the shipping company MSC Cruises. "While the staff at our Medical Center responded quickly, the child's health deteriorated unexpectedly, but despite several attempts to revive the child, it unfortunately died," a statement said.
The ship was under Italian media reports from Sicily to Sardinia. There it put on Tuesday. The dead boy was taken to a hospital on the island. The local health authority has found a natural death, reported the news agency Ansa.
Where the family comes from in Germany and what the exact cause of death, was not known. The health authorities in Sardinia have so far not been reached for an opinion.
The shipping company is working with the authorities to "support the family as much as possible in repatriating the child," MSC Cruises said. "We are deeply affected by this incident and express our deepest condolences to the family and those affected."
