In Yokohama, strangers stole a 50-carat diamond from a display case. The gem had been exhibited at a jewelry fair.

Japan's police are looking for a diamond worth more than 1.6 million euros. The precious stone was stolen during a jewelry fair near the capital Tokyo, police said.

The diamond had been stolen from a display case on Thursday, said a police spokesman. The 50-carat gemstone was exhibited at a jewelry fair in Yokohama, where companies from Japan, Russia, China and other countries present their goods for three days.

According to the NHK broadcasting company, the theft was noticed by an employee. He had noticed that the display case was not locked. The stolen diamond belongs to a Japanese company and was apparently the only stolen goods.
