Dutroux is considered one of the most dangerous criminals in Belgium. He was arrested in 1996 and convicted in 2004 by a jury. The jury found him guilty of murdering two girls and one accomplice in 1995 and 1996, as well as kidnapping and abusing a total of six girls. Experts described Dutroux as "real psychopaths", "narcissistic perverse" and "manipulative".
Bruno Dayez, one of Dutroux's lawyers, announced in early 2018 that he would call for early release from his client after 25 years in prison, ie in 2021. A new psychiatric report was a "necessary step". Thus, Dutroux's mental health has not been studied since 2013.
