A US man whose granddaughter crashed aboard a cruise ship in July is facing charges in a Puerto Rican court for the careless killing of the infant. This was reported by the local authorities.
According to the prosecutors, evidence that the girl had fallen out the window after her grandfather lifted her. A judge ordered the arrest of the man. There was a deposit of $ 80,000.
The ship had lain in the harbor of San Juan on the island of Puerto Rico, when the 18-month-old girl from the eleventh floor of the "Freedom of the Seas" fell and died.
The police said that the grandfather dropped his granddaughter. The survivors resisted this representation - and blame the cruise company. According to the family lawyer, who is from Indiana, his grandfather did not drop the girl, it fell out of a window.
Accordingly, the man played with the granddaughter in the children's area of the ship. The girl liked to knock on glass and ask his grandfather to lift it to a wall with slices. The man had assumed that it had dealt with discs that you could not open. But the window through which the girl fell was open, according to the lawyer.
The lawyer criticized the prosecutor's decision to sue the child's grandfather. The death of the girl had been a tragic accident. "The allegations are like salt being spread on the open wounds of the grieving family," he said.
