"G31 to Downtown" is on the light of the bus. But he will not reach his destination - the rear part of the vehicle is stuck in a hole in the road, the front part is high in the air.
The incident occurred in the US city of Pittsburgh in the state of Pennsylvania. On Monday morning, the bus was officially reported to have been traveling in the city center. When he stopped at a red light, the ground had suddenly given way, and a big hole had opened.
On board the bus were at this time only the driver and a passenger. The 56-year-old woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries. In the meantime she had been released again. The driver was reported to be unhurt.
For those curious, the heaviest part of the bus is the back because that's where the engine is located. This bus was stopped at the time of this happening. pic.twitter.com/HT3DNQxNCR
- Port Authority PGH (@PGHtransit) October 28, 2019Even in the evening, the bus was still partially sunk in the hole. According to the authorities, two cranes have now been transported to the site. Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said the bus is on three power lines, two of which are 22,000 volt lines.
According to Hissrich, it will take hours before the cranes are ready for use and all preparations have been completed. Only after the 14-tonne bus has been lifted out of the hole can the inspection and repair of the pipes begin.
The phenomenon of the earth hole occurs worldwide. Sometimes, broken water pipes are the cause, sometimes bad weather, sometimes mining. An overview in pictures can be found in the following photo gallery:
