The family of a 13-year-old who was fatally wounded in an attack at a school in Moreno Valley, California, has filed a lawsuit against the school district. The reported several US media, including the "Los Angeles Times" and the broadcaster ABC. As a result, she demands $ 100 million.
The boy was complaining about mobbing days before the deadly assault on the deputy headmistress after he was allegedly beaten to the chest by three boys, he said. At the meeting, he was reportedly accompanied by a full-year family member.
"It was completely avoidable"
According to the complaint, they were promised to suspend the attackers. But when the 13-year-old returned to school, they confronted him and knocked him to the ground. The victim died at the hospital nine days later.
The boy was raised after the death of his parents by his aunt and uncle, who have now filed the lawsuit. "They are devastated," said David Ring, the couple's lawyer. "It was totally avoidable, and it's really hard for them to understand that."
According to ABC, the boy's family states that classmates repeatedly verbally and physically bullied him before. His guardians had therefore made several complaints to the school management. These were not taken seriously.
Alleged perpetrators must appear in court
The school district is not expected to be responsible for the death of the boy, said a spokeswoman. She declined to comment on the litigation or make public details of the case. "There is no room for bullying in our schools and violence will not be tolerated," she said.
In connection with the death of the 13-year-old, two boys are accused of manslaughter. They deny the allegations. On Friday they have to appear in court.
