Cambodia: Police report death of missing Briton

For a week she was missing: The body of a tourist missing in Cambodia was apparently discovered by fishermen in the sea. Maybe the 21-year-old drowned.



Cambodia police say they found the body of a young woman who was reported missing a week ago. The lifeless body of the woman was driven in the sea, said the police chief of the province Preah Sihanouk. The location is located tens of kilometers northwest of the last known location of the tourist. The cause of death is not yet clear.

The British tourist was last seen around 3:30 on October 24th. She attended a party in a beach bar on Koh Rong Island. The 21-year-old was reported missing because she did not return to her hostel. Later, her bag and cell phone were found.

A high-ranking representative of the Navy said that fishermen had discovered the dead in the sea. The British woman has been identified on the basis of her European phenotype, her clothes and her tattoos. An autopsy is still pending.

200 emergency services were looking for her

In search of the tourist involved nearly 200 task forces. Divers searched for the missing in the sea off Koh Rong, police were combing through the jungle. Already on Tuesday, a police spokesman said that there was hardly any hope of finding the woman alive.

Six Cambodians were also interrogated that day. However, according to the investigators, there was no evidence that they had anything to do with the disappearance of the Briton. They were then released.

A few days after the disappearance of the tourist her family had traveled to Cambodia. On Facebook relatives asked for help in finding the woman.

Koh Rong is the second largest island in Cambodia. Located in the Gulf of Thailand, it is popular among backpackers and young travelers.
