After a carbon monoxide alarm, a skyscraper in Heddesheim in Baden-Württemberg has been evacuated. All 69 residents had to leave their homes on Thursday evening. Three people were taken to the hospital with acute carbon monoxide poisoning, as reported by the police in Mannheim. They are a 42-year-old woman and two 20 and 22-year-old men. A 67-year-old woman was treated on an outpatient basis.
Rescuers called for a medical emergency had noticed the increased gas concentration through a warning device. The cause was according to the information a defective pipe at the heating system. This brought the gas into the elevator shaft.
Only after midnight was the large-scale operation of the fire department completed. Residents were able to return to their apartments after the building had been ventilated.
