"History will tell us what we are doing today to ensure that future generations can enjoy the same livable planet we took for granted." With these unctuous words, Leonard DiCaprio posted on Instagram the picture that showed him with Greta Thunberg in sunny light and green surroundings. Judging by the mischievously smiling faces, the two got along well.
The 44-year-old US actor ("Once Upon a Time in Hollywood") celebrated the 16-year-old Swedish environmental activist in the post as "leader of our time." He hopes that "Greta's Message" is a wake-up call for the other leaders of the world, that the time of inactivity is over.

There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways - but @GretaThunberg has become a leader of our time. History wants to enjoy the same livable planet that we have. I hope that Greta's message is a wake-up call to world leaders everywhere. It is because of Greta, and young activists everywhere that I am optimistic about what the future holds. It was an honor to spend time with Greta. She and I make a commitment to support one another, in hopes of securing a future for our planet. #FridaysforFuture #ClimateStrike @fridaysforfuture

DiCaprio has been committed to environmental protection for a long time. Speaking at the 2016 Oscars, where he was named Best Actor, he said: "Climate change is real, it's happening right now, it's the most immediate threat to our entire species and we have to fight and stop it together, delay the solution of the problems. "
A demand that he repeated after his meeting with Thunberg: "Climate change is not hysteria, it is a fact!" But thanks to Thunberg and other young activists, he is optimistic about the future.
Meanwhile, the Spanish government offered help to the climate activist to attend the UN climate change conference in Madrid in December. Environment Minister Teresa Ribera promised to help with the crossing of the Atlantic. Thunberg is currently stuck in South America, where she actually wanted to visit the Climate Change Conference in Chile. After the surprising rejection of Chile, the Spanish capital had jumped in as host of the climate conference. What travel assistance to the Spanish capital could look like, Ribera did not say.
