On the run from the police, a motorist caused a fatal accident. Now the 19-year-old was convicted of murder - and sentenced to more than six years of juvenile detention.

In the process of a fatal Raser accident on a motorway parking lot in Hessen the verdict has fallen. The regional court Darmstadt sentenced the 19-year-old driver to six years and four months of juvenile punishment. The judges assessed the act in their verdict as a murder.

The condemned man had fled his car in front of two patrol cars on December 30, 2018. On the A5 he drove with more than one hundred kilometers per hour on the motorway parking lot Fuchsbuckel near Heppenheim and crashed into the parked car of a family from Dusseldorf.

The 39-year-old mother died in the accident, the then-ten-year-old son was seriously injured. The father, who was outside the vehicle at the time of the accident, suffered a shock. The family was on their way to friends to celebrate New Year's Eve with them. Even the accident causer himself suffered serious injuries.

The accused described himself in the process as a "car fanatic" and said he had fled from the police for fear of another procedure for driving without a driver's license. He made a confession.

Murder trials against racers

Most recently, suspected fatalities were more likely to be prosecuted for murder. At the beginning of July, the Stuttgart public prosecutor brought a murder charge against a 20-year-old. He is said to have raced through Stuttgart's city center with a rented sports car up to 165 kilometers per hour, causing an accident in which the 25-year-old driver and the 22-year-old co-driver of a small car died.

In early March, the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Karlsruhe had first confirmed a murder sentence against a Raser. The man had killed a man in Hamburg in 2017 with a stolen taxi and seriously injured two. The Hamburg Regional Court sentenced the man, who was 24 years old, to life imprisonment in February 2018.
