Slovenian and Hungarian drug investigators have secured in a joint action 730 kilos of pure heroin. The value of the drug is estimated at 52.3 million euros, said representatives of the Hungarian and Slovenian police on Wednesday at a press conference in the southwestern city of Nagykanizsa.
It was about the largest heroin finding in Hungary for 20 years, it said. In Budapest, a 47-year-old Hungarian was arrested, against whom is determined as the recipient of the drug delivery.
The delivery had Slovenian investigators for clues from Hungary at the end of the previous month in the Slovenian Adriatic port Koper discovered. The heroin had come from Iran in a container. The Slovenian authorities confiscated most of the drug, but - in consultation with their Hungarian counterparts - allowed them to continue on their way to Hungary with almost 70 kilos of heroin.
A truck driver unwittingly transported the heroin along with other goods to Budapest. This brought the Hungarians on the track of the now arrested alleged buyer. According to the investigators, the entire delivery was intended for the Hungarian market.
