Those who long for winter in view of the first snowfalls in Germany have been happy too early: The weather in the next few days should be cloudy. Only occasionally there are sunny loosening, said the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach. In the mountains, some snow is in sight for the night of Saturday. "It will not be much," said a DWD meteorologist.
On Thursday it is mostly cloudy in the southwest, it can be raining a little. Longer sunny sections are announced for the northern edges of the low mountain ranges as well as the east and southeastern German highlands. Depending on the sunshine, the temperatures are between one and nine degrees.
Also on Friday the clouds dominate at temperatures between two and nine degrees, exceptions are the edges of the low mountain ranges. There, the sun can occasionally be seen. At the Alps, Föhn ensures that the snow that fell on Wednesday becomes significantly less. During the day light rainfall spreads. At night, it can snow a bit above 600 meters in the mountains of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
Snow chaos in Austria
The weekend starts with lots of clouds and a little rain. The best weather is on Saturday, probably in the low mountain ranges, where the sun can be seen from time to time. Otherwise, it remains cloudy with values between two and ten degrees foggy.
The first snow of the season in Bavaria had no major impact on Wednesday. The situation was less relaxed in neighboring Austria, where the first heavy snowfall of the season in several states led to traffic accidents.
In addition, almost 10,000 households in Carinthia, East Tyrol, Styria and Salzburg were temporarily without electricity. According to the network operators, trees were overturned and cables torn because of the snow load. Also streets and train routes had to be closed.
