Art Forms of Nature: Ernst Haeckel, who died 100 years ago, was the leading evolutionary biologist in Germany. Based on Darwin's teachings, he designed his own system of nature. He also popularized his fascination in public like no other - as a gifted artist. More firmly than any other researcher, Haeckel was also convinced that a "primeval slime" on the seabed was the source of life.
