Bad weather in Italy: snow chaos in South Tyrol, flooding in Venice

Storm, snow, continuous rain - and again high water in Venice: over large parts of Italy, severe weather has moved away. "The situation is precarious," it said.



Italy has been hit by heavy storms. In South Tyrol there is snow chaos, an avalanche hit a village. The snow masses had pressed through the streets of Martell, said Mayor Georg Altstätter. But there are no victims. Houses were damaged and people evacuated. "The situation is precarious," said Altstatter.

The Brenner motorway was closed between Bressanone and Vipiteno due to heavy snowfall, said the traffic control center. It prevail in the greater part of South Tyrol's great avalanche danger level 4, said national meteorologist Dieter Peterlin on Twitter.

In South Tyrol, the forces had already prepared for new snowfall during the night. Already on Friday, snowfall had caused chaos, thousands of people sat in the dark because of the power outages caused by it.
