A French doctor is suspected of abusing several minor patients under anesthesia. The prosecutor of the southwestern French port of La Rochelle said that 250 possible victims had been identified. 209 of them had already been questioned, and a total of 184 suspected victims were planning to file a lawsuit.
The man has been in custody on the basis of previous rape and abuse allegations since May 2017. He must answer to the prosecutor in March in the department of Charente-Maritime in court.
Acts occurred between 1989 and 2017
181 of the now identified possible victims were minors at the time of the crime, the prosecution said. Already in early October, a preliminary investigation has been initiated to find further potential victims of the surgeon, reported the news channel Franceinfo.
In a notebook found during a house search in 2017, the doctor had recorded names and sexual practices carried out, AFP reported. The surgeon's defense therefore insisted that the written down were merely fantasies. The notes brought the investigators now on the trail of other possible victims.
According to the prosecutor's office, much of the crime took place between 1989 and 2017 in Brittany, where the doctor worked in various locations.
