The police officer, who was injured in the deadly attack on the Berlin doctor Fritz von Weizsäcker, has been operated on again. He went "according to the circumstances," said a police spokesman. The 33-year-old had to be re-operated, but he was not in mortal danger.
The official had been privately in the lecture by Weizsäckers in the lock park clinic, as an attacker fatally injured the son of the former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker with a knife on the neck. While the cop overwhelmed the attacker, he was also injured and subsequently hospitalized.
His intervention earned "the utmost respect," said the union of the police (GdP) in Berlin. It is hoped that both his severe physical and mental wounds "heal as quickly as possible and above all completely".
More on the subject:
The attacker Gregor S., a 57-year-old from Rhineland-Palatinate, was arrested immediately after the crime. Because of an acute mental illness, a judge issued a so-called housing order - the man was taken to a psychiatric hospital. What facility is, said the prosecutor not.
The motive of the attacker lies in a "probably delusional general dislike of the accused against the family of the killed," it said of the investigators.
