A detective intervened when 57-year-old Gregor S. set off on Fritz von Weizsäcker. By intervening in the deadly attack on the Berlin chief physician and son of the former Federal President, the 33-year-old suffered severe injuries. He was a private guest on a lecture, was attacked by Weizsäcker.
He talked about the attack in the Schlosspark Clinic in Berlin-Charlottenburg with the "Bild" newspaper. He suffered deep cuts on the hands and injuries to the neck and chest. After the lecture of the doctor, he had talked briefly with Weizsäcker, reported the police still lying in the hospital.

The attacker had torn himself and hit him with the knife on the neck and chest. "I took my second hand to reach into the knife to tear it out of his hand, and in the scramble we both fell over the chairs of the first row of seats to the floor."
"He had such tremendous power that at first I thought I would not make it," said the policeman, who had to undergo multiple surgery for his injuries. After all, he could have snatched the gun from the gunman. Other visitors to the lecture intervened and overwhelmed the murderer.
