In the theft of jewels from the historic Green Vault in Dresden apparently fewer objects have been stolen than initially feared. This was said by Marion Ackermann, Director General of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden at a press conference.
The burglars apparently wanted to smear their tracks with fire-extinguishing powder in their theft, said museum director Dirk Syndram, who was able to inspect the showcase. It must now be looked at, such as pearls "have survived". About the plundered display case in the Green Vault, Syndram said, "It's not empty." It shows "a battlefield". "We have to see how we can bring them back to shine."
The commercial director of the Grünes Gewölbe, Dirk Burghardt, defended the actions of the security staff. One of the guards had decided to dial the 110 instead of pressing the alarm button. This only signals that something is wrong.
Thanks to the direct wire to the police, the conversation could be recorded immediately. According to Burghardt, there have been three alarms within a very short time, and the perpetrator has hit the showcase with "brute force". In the face of this situation, the security guard decided not to go to the scene, but to receive the police at the service entrance.
Since the break on Monday, the police are searching for the fugitives.
