For days, a fallow deer in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania caused traffic obstructions. On Monday, the animal should even have stopped German Chancellor Angela Merkel. At least the news agency dpa reports.
Merkel's company car had to take a detour on the highway 20 near Stralsund said an unspecified source with the authorities. The section had been locked when the animal was being shooed off the four-lane road. The car of the Chancellor had to evade then allegedly on a main road.
The fact that it actually came so far, was due to the weather: Because it was hazy, Merkel's helicopter had not been able to fly.
Merkel was on the way to Zingst (Vorpommern-Rügen) to her constituency. There, the long-time mayor Andreas Kuhn (CDU) was adopted.
For the deer action, the road was closed for about an hour. The animal had been seen dangerously close to the road just under a week between the wild fence and the lane of the A20. There were speed limits and police alerts.
