Hundred kilograms of cocaine with a street sale value of about seven million euros have been confiscated by customs investigators in a banana delivery to supermarkets in Emsland and in North Rhine-Westphalia. This was reported by the customs investigation department Essen. The bananas were part of a container shipment from Colombia, which had been delivered from South America by refrigerated ship to Antwerp and then to a fruit importer in the Ruhr.
A part of the banana delivery had already been delivered to a supermarket chain. When unloading the banana boxes, supermarket employees found one-kilo packets that lay under the fruit. The company immediately reported this to the police and the importer, who in turn turned on the Zollfahndungsamt Essen.
The Essen investigators immediately searched all deliveries and came across a hundred packages, each containing one kilogram of cocaine.
In this way, the drug smuggling is a "common scam," said the spokeswoman for the Customs Office of the Essen, Heike Sennewald. In order to get their goods, the recipients of the drugs often intervene with the wholesalers.
