The word of the year 2019 is "Respektrente". The society for German language (GfdS) in Wiesbaden designated this designation of a Grundrente for persons, who were employed for 35 years and still can not live from their pension, as "socio-political and semantically" striking term, explained GfdS chairman Peter Schlobinski with the Presentation of the ranking. In the following places landed "Roller Chaos" and "Fridays for Future".
Every year, the GfdS chooses terms for the German language which, in the opinion of the jury, linguistically determine the political, economic and social life of a year in a special way. It was "hot time" last year, in 2017 it had made "Jamaica-Off" to the top. For a place on the list, according to the society is not the frequency crucial, but the significance and popularity.
