If you live in southern Germany, you can hope for the first advent on snow: From 300 meters, chances are good. In the north, winter starts mostly dry.

Just in time for the first Sunday of Advent and at the beginning of December, deep "Olaf" on Sunday, especially in the south and southwest of Germany at higher altitudes provides for snow. At lower altitudes, however, rain and sleet are also possible, reported the German Weather Service (DWD).

With precipitation must be expected mainly from the Eifel to the Palatinate, in the afternoon and in the evening also in Lower Bavaria. Snow falls primarily from heights of about 300 meters. For the rest of the country the DWD says dry weather beforehand, most likely it could come to the coast to a few showers. At night there should also be freezing frost almost everywhere in Germany.

On Monday it will be rather dry with temperatures between zero and eight degrees, on Tuesday is sometimes even longer sunshine possible - always provided that the sun can make its way through fog and high fog.

Autumn: Average warm, nice and moist

With the first of December begins for meteorologists also the winter. According to the DWD, autumn was rather average, albeit a bit too warm. On average, temperatures in Germany have risen to 10.1 degrees Celsius since the beginning of September.

The hottest place in autumn was Coschen, south of Eisenhüttenstadt, where temperatures reached another 33.6 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature reported a measuring station on the Swabian Alb, east of Rottweil, with minus 9.6 degrees on 11 November.

With precipitation of about 205 liters per square meter, autumn was also slightly wetter than in many previous years. However, the widespread rain did not set in until the last third of September - and thus came too late, according to DWD for many forests.
