How many triangles do you see? The confusing puzzle that drives the network

Abhilash Thiruvarppu

A man by the name of Kumar Ankit has uploaded a seemingly simple puzzle to quora.com and has been able to confuse and drive the network. The puzzle included a picture and a question: How many triangles are there? The puzzle has been shared thousands of times on Facebook and it soon became clear to surfers that it was not at all simple. The suggested answers were varied and ranged from a very wide range, from 4 to 44, until eventually a mathematician named Martin Silvertant came out to help the masses and drew a simple diagram that explains how to get the right answer. The correct answer is ... 25 triangles. Twenty-four of them are in the drawing itself, and another is in letter A, signed by the painter. If you just can't figure out why this is the answer, you'll be much easier once you know the solution strategy. The first row has six triangles (three separated, two made of triangular pairs and one that includes all of them). By using the same strategy you can see that there are also six triangles in each of the other three rows. So we got 24, and as mentioned, the remaining triangle is in the painter's signature. Some users have noted that the correct answer can also be 26 if we consider the word "triangles" written in the puzzle.

Here's the solution
