'The Gay Cage' - The French play, which became an American movie, returns this time to the Holon Theater. The crazy comedy that drags on drag, goes right up there these days and also exposes a stratified crowd to the colorful culture. "I feel a mission in bringing the play," says Rafi Niv, director of the play

Whether you are a drag fan, theater or just have a funny evening, Holon Theater is currently raising the 'gay cage' (by Beer Sheva Theater). A French play that has become synonymous with comedy, has enjoyed great success throughout the world and even works for a film that has become a French classic. In 1996, he released an American film adaptation called "The Bird Cage," starring Nathan Lane and Robin Williams, and more recently a successful musical of the same name, which was widely successful on Broadway.

In the play you will meet Georges, who runs a successful nightclub in the bright and glamorous San Tropez of the 1970s. Michelle is his partner and star of the rising drag shows at the club. The two live happily and happily nesting in a happy and colorful nest until Lauren, Georges' son (from a night he'd rather forget) informs them that he's getting married and that the super-conservative bride's parents are interested in meeting his parents and are on their way to visit. This is where a crazy, funny and exciting situation comedy develops.

"Playing the gay cage is a crazy exaggeration of drag," says the show's director, Rafi Niv, in a conversation with Walla! Pride. "It is a pleasure to see a stratified audience, as well as an audience from the community, roll with laughter, excited to tears and lovingly receive the wonderful couple's heroes.

The play that emerges at the Holon Theater arrives in perfect timing with the blossoming of the culture of drag, which recently peaked, in Israel. Ropol's drag racing seems to have inspired the colorful culture, and after a long period of prominence only in Tel Aviv clubs, it is flourishing all over the country today.

"Ro Paul fans can enjoy fine drag performances and virtuoso acting performances by Amir Criaf and Molly Shulman as the lovers. As a gay man, I feel a sense of mission in raising the play as part of the repertory theater on stages across the country," added Niv.
