Next week, December 9, will mark the first anniversary of Yigal Bashan's death. To honor his memory, a tribute show called "The Beautiful Songs of Yigal Bashan" will be held at the Tel Aviv Cultural Hall tonight.

Yigal's last song in the tooth

• Never played: Yigal's last song

The show will be directed by Alfie's puppies, during which many artists will sing Bashan's songs, including Shlomo Artzi, Shlomi Shabbat, Aviv Geffen, Miri Messika, Yuval Dayan, Moshe Peretz, Peter Roth, Shlomi Shaban, Eli Butner and the Foreign Children, Aharon Perera and Avi Dor, Mika Karni, Daniel Solomon, Dana Adini and Ben Artzi. The musicians who will accompany them will include musicians who have worked with Bashan over the years, including Shmulik Budgov and Avi Singolda.

In the evening, a clip for Bashan's new song, "Look At Me," will be screened for the first time, the last song he recorded six months before his death. The clip was directed by Yaron Shilon (42) and consists of his father's private archive materials, Yigal Shilon, who was a member of Bashan, as well as materials from the "Oveda" and the corporation's archives.

"As a kid, I admired Yigal Bashan," says Shilon, "I was plowing on 'The Green Tape', his performance at the November 1981 club. It had a green color sticker, so it was the green tape for me. By the age of 5, I knew all his songs. Here I would go to the garden with a jacket and tie because Yigal would look like this (laughs).

"I've never worked with him, but I did sometimes get to hear his songs before they came out because my parents were friends of him and Mika, so I had an opinion about his materials. He was a man who was very fun to be with his company."

How did you decide what would be in the clip?

"It's mainly the stream of consciousness. You hear the song and go through archival material. I had a gift in the form of archival material that my father photographed in the 1970s from all kinds of joint flights abroad and family events. These are materials that have never been seen before. On top of that, I got the adorable and creepy material from the Fact Sheet program she did on it. Surprisingly, Yigal doesn't have many clips, and if there are - they belong to Channel 1. But yes I did find a rare video from Yigal and Mika's wedding.

"Whenever they do such clips, they are about man himself and the era and what Israel looked like then. Besides, it is a really beautiful song. From the moment it came out - it received very nice responses. How you hear the song - recognize that it is a song by Yigal Bashan. The clip itself was edited very quickly. It's the kind of project you don't mess with. It's a sweet clip, with no cynicism and lots of love. "
