Why the new Melania Trump biography surprised

2019-12-03T17:02:20.174Z

The First Lady, a mystery? A new biography about Melanie Trump causes a great stir - also because the author draws the picture of a very influential woman in the White House.

It is likely to be of all the women who have played the role of First Lady of the United States in the past few decades, the least known about Melania Trump.

An unauthorized biography now published in the US sheds light on the life of US President Donald Trump's wife. Tenor of the book: Melania Trump has much more influence on her husband than generally assumed. She deliberately communicates about her clothes and has a difficult relationship with her stepdaughter Ivanka.

The author of "Free, Melania" is Kate Bennett from the news channel CNN - with President Trump at loggerheads.

While Melania Trump is often ridiculed in public, her author Bennett attributes a great deal of influence to the White House. The native of Slovenia ex-model is with regard to her husband "much more powerful and influential" than in the public known. Bennett writes that Trump's third wife last year saw National Security Advisor Mira Ricardel lose her post after clashing with the First Lady on an African trip.

The biography also mentions that the couple Trump in the White House allegedly has separate bedrooms. The president's wife lives in a two-room suite on one floor above the president's bedroom. It also has its own gym.

Message to Ivanka?

Although Melania seldom speaks in public, Bennett says, she expresses herself through her deliberately chosen clothes. However, this method sometimes causes confusion and misunderstandings: Last year, when visiting a home for immigrant children on the Mexican border, the First Lady wore a jacket with the imprint "I really care, and you?".

Some saw it as a sign of indifference towards the children, others a criticism of their husband's immigration policy, yet others a defiant message to the press. Believe Bennett, but it was about something completely different: Accordingly, it was a message to her stepdaughter Ivanka, who sometimes accuses Melania to perform like a First Lady.

According to the biography, the president's wife also wears pantsuits when she's mad at her husband - because the president likes to see women in "tight, short, super sexy, and feminine dresses."

"Wrong details and opinions"?

Melanie Trump herself is clearly unimpressed by the biography. "Ms. Trump is surprised at Kate Bennett's report," says a White House statement cited by the Guardian. "Unfortunately, it contains many false details and opinions that show that Mrs. Bennett spoke to many anonymous people who did not know Mrs. Trump."

Melanie Trump's biography is by no means all that bad: Bennett shows sympathy for the First Lady in the book - and also turns against looking at Melania as a victim of her husband.

The 49-year-old is often described as a prisoner in the White House, hence the memo "Free Melania" (Liberated Melania). The biography "Free, Melania" interprets this phrase with an extra comma - and praises Melania as a free woman: "She does not need any deliverance," Bennett emphasizes.
