George Zimmerman has sued Trayvon Martin's parents for damages: he claims at least $ 100 million from them and others, his lawyer Larry Klayman said; that's about 90 million euros. In February 2012, Zimmerman had shot the then 17-year-old Martin in the city of Sanford in Orlando, the African-American youth was unarmed.
In the trial of the then neighborhood guard Zimmerman, the jury categorized the case as self-defense and acquitted the white Zimmerman of the accusation of a manslaughter. The Florida case sparked nationwide protests and a heated debate over racism: Martin's death led to the founding of the civil rights movement Black Lives Matter.
In the lawsuit filed against Martins parents, Zimmerman's attorney now claims that the key prosecution witness in the 2013 trial was a "scammer" who "delivered false testimony to incriminate Zimmerman." The parents of Trayvon Martin, their lawyer Ben Crump and others had come to a testimony in favor of the teenager to get.
Crump dismissed the allegation as unfounded. It is a "shameless attempt to beat the lives and sorrows of others," he said. Zimmerman "wants us to believe that he is an innocent victim of a deep conspiracy," although there is no credible evidence "supporting these outrageous claims," the lawyer said. "This story is devoid of logic."
