Matteo Salvini's attack on Nutella, in his opinion of using Turkish hazelnuts, is one of the main trends on Twitter, and has triggered the reaction not only of his opponents' political exponents, but also of economists and the wider people of the network.
In the early afternoon 13,600 tweets are recorded with the hashtag #Nutella, and others respond to the leader's words with the hashtag #noccioleturche or #nocciole.
Many tweets, those of economists, managers or experts, underline how Ferrero's Nutella production absorbs 40% of the world market of hazelnuts and that the Italian ones would not suffice.
Many others, such as Undersecretary Alessia Morani, recall Ferrero's plan to set up new hazel groves in various regions, especially in the south. Many other "chirps" if anything emphasize the contradictory nature of yesterday's statements by Salvini and his previous photos he posted while he was eating Nutella: "With the Turkish hazelnuts, Salvini's turnaround today recalls his positions on the Euro", writes Enrico Letta.
But the vast majority of the network's people make fun of Salvini through Irony: above all the fake account of Vujaidin Boskov: "#salvini said he is no longer a mechanic because he uses a wrench instead of an Italian one ".
