Angela Merkel arrived at the Auschwitz concentration camp. It is the first time he visits the symbolic place of the Chancellor's Holocaust. The last chancellor to visit Auschwitz was Helmut Kohl in 1995.
The chancellor, dressed in black, was received by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau foundation, Piotr Cywinski. Together with the Polish delegation, the chancellor slowly crossed the entrance to the Nazi concentration camp, where the infamous gate is located, with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei".
