With the song "Germany" Rammstein staged their return in the spring - and caused a scandal. Because in the teaser for the music video the band members showed themselves as concentration camp prisoners at the gallows. The second song from the album "Rammstein" also provided plenty of publicity, even if it was less controversial: On a Berlin intersection, the band had the video "Radio" streamed on a wall in Berlin.
Now the group has made it with the record to the first place in the German annual charts: With more than 260,000 units sold in the first seven days, four weeks as number one on the charts and 18 weeks in the top ten lead the album "Rammstein" a comfortable lead, as the market researchers at GfK Entertainment explained. The placement is derived from the German album charts, which in turn feed, among other things, from stationary retail, but also download portals and streaming platforms.
Behind Rammstein, other German-speaking musicians, such as Sarah Connor ("Herz Kraft Werke"), whose song "Vincent" about a boy who realizes that he is gay, was shortened by some radio stations or not even played in the album annual charts. Behind them are Udo Lindenberg ("MTV Unplugged 2 - Live from the Atlantic"), Herbert Grönemeyer ("Tumult") and the pop singer Andrea Berg ("Mosaic"). Only in eighth place followed with Ed Sheeran an international artist.
"Old Town Road" wins the singles classification
In the singles classification, the American rapper Lil Nas X (20) won the country hip-hop hit "Old Town Road" (featuring Billy Ray Cyrus). The song combines elements of traditional country with hip-hop games like Trap - breaking the record for the longest time in the US singles charts this summer. For over 17 weeks in a row, the song was number one on the hit list.
Behind "Old Town Road" landed in the single-year charts the song "Dance Monkey" by Australian singer-songwriter Tones And I, followed by "Roller" by rapper Apache 207, "Sweet But Psycho" by Ava Max - and "Missing" by Juju feat. Henning May. With the rap ballad, the musician, whose real name is Juju Judith Wessendorf and first became known as part of rap duo SXTN, recorded her first number one hit as a solo artist this year.
