Two couples quarreled with a group of young men on Friday night. A 49-year-old was killed. A 20-member investigation team is now looking for the perpetrators.

The police are currently investigating who could have killed the 49-year-old on the Augsburg Königsplatz - but had no concrete track until Saturday afternoon.

The police had set up a 20-member investigation team, said the responsible police headquarters. The officers focused on evaluating footage from the crime scene. That would probably last until Sunday afternoon, it said.

If you have until then usable material, would be published after consultation with the prosecutor's wanted photos. As reported by the "Augsburger Allgemeine", 15 police cameras have been recording events at Königsplatz for almost a year.

Together with his wife and a friendly couple, the later victim had visited the Christkindlesmarkt and on Friday evening had been in the city center shortly after half past ten when they encountered a seven-member group of young men.

Maybe a chance encounter

For reasons unknown, it came to a dispute. One of the young men beat the 49-year-old from the district of Augsburg then against the head. He fell and remained lying on the ground. Even the 50-year-old companion was injured in the face. The women were not attacked. After the dispute fled the perpetrators.

It was probably a chance encounter. Emergency physicians tried to revive the 49-year-old - but without success. The man died in the ambulance less than an hour later.

The police asked that passers-by who may have seen the perpetrator group before or say something about their escape route be told. It depends on testimonies, it was said.
